OmniPage vs. PaperPort

I need someone else's brain to tell me what the difference is between Scansoft's OmniPage and PaperPort products. Reading their web site doesn't help much as they seem to be virtually the same. Can someone clarify these two products for me?

I recently bought a Brother MFC8840DN (duplex, networked, multi-function printer/fax/scanner/copier) and although it comes with PaperPort 8.0 SE I'd like to try something else for scanning (it doesn't seem to work very well but it could be the limited version that comes pre-packaged).

Thnx,
Deb

Re: OmniPage vs. PaperPort

First, Scansoft's OmniPage is a OCR program which is part of the PaperPort Suite, which is a document control package.

From the web site
Easily Organize, Find and Share All Your Documents
PaperPort products are the ideal way for individuals and businesses to organize all their paper and digital documents in one easy-to-use application. When documents are managed in PaperPort, information is easy to find and share which saves time and money every day.

Second, as to what scanning software to use?

What are you going to scan and what are you going to do the the scanning produced?

For OCR I use OmniPage 14 and for graphics I use any one of my many photo packages using the scanner interface that came with my scanner(s).

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: OmniPage vs. PaperPort

Hmmm, ok but they both do scanning and organizing whatever you scanned...They still both seem to be very similar. I'll re-read their specs and try and figure it out. Their customer service was closed by the time I started reading.

As to what I plan on scanning, it'll mostly be text documents, maybe some photos (but I have a nicer HP photo scanner for prints, slides and negatives that does a better job). I don't need to be able to edit the scanned docs (but nice to have occasionally). I just want to electronically store some of the paper docs I have taking up space.

Thnx,
Deb
