NOD 32 - any experience?

In the most recent issue of PC Mag (9/21/04) there is a full page ad on pg. 78 for NOD 32 antivirus (www.eset.us/compare). I thought I'd heard of all the anti-virus products, but this is a new one. Has anyone heard of them or use them?

In the ad, they *claim* to be faster and catch more viruses than Norton or McAfee NetShield. They also claim to be the top ranked by Virsu Bulletin (again, something I hadn't heard of ).

Anyone out there with experience regarding this product?

I went to their Homepage and got this from their latest news release.
"Microsoft Release Labs Renews Its License for NOD32
08/31/2004 (San Diego)
NOD32 selected to Protect Microsoft Software from Viruses and Worms for the Fourth Year 1st line of text: August, 26, 2004- Eset, a global provider of next generation virus protection, today announced that Microsoft renewed its corporate license to use NOD32 antivirus software in its release labs."

They do offer a trial download there too. It's listed under the "Download" button at the top of the page. HTH

Doc,
Thanks. I got the free download from a page within the link I posted. It's good (I think) to know that Microsoft trusts them to protect their lab. What bothered me about the free download was the SERIOUS WARNING to UNINSTALL, not just disable, any existing anti-virus software on the system. The problem is Norton Internet Suite came pre-installed on my new PC without the original CD. I'll have to call and *discuss* with Dell getting the CD to Norton.

Before I got into that discussion, I wanted an idea if the software was effective. Your reference is a big help in that regard.
Thank you.

Mark,
While I agree that it's always a requirement to uninstall any previous anti-virus software before installing anything new, I have some serious reservation about you being able to discuss anything with Dell about previously installed software CDs unless that discussion includes your credit card # along with your order for a "duplicate" CD.

If you got the "90 days free" version, you aren't giving up a whole lot by uninstalling... but I would be surprised if Norton misses anything important. It may well make sense to switch for speed, but I'm doubtful about improved detection under normal conditions.

Well put, Jefferson !! I would agree that under "normal use" conditions, with up-to-date definitions, Norton would be as good or better than the competition.
