    SP2 vs. Zone Alarm (SP2)

I'm considering patching to XP SP2. I run ZoneAlarmPro (ZAP) with success. Does anyone have advice about whether to abrogate the SP2 firewall in favor of ZAP, or even an argument in favor of SP2 over ZAP?

Finally, is SP2 too buggy still to consider employing? I can easily wait.

    Thanks.

ZoneAlarm offers features you will not find in Windows Firewall, and assuming you have stored your preferences over time, it is much easier not to have to train Windows Firewall the same way.

As for whether now is the time to install SP2, you can read here that many have had no problems, and a few have had big problems. Sounds like a normal Service Pack experience to me. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks, jscher2000, for your very rapid reply! I'm pretty sure I'll stick w/ZAP, and I think I'll wait a bit more to install SP2. I assume Microsoft tweaks the SP as it "matures."

Anyone else have opinions about this stuff?

Re: SP2 vs. Zone Alarm (SP2)

My humble advice is to go ahead with SP2.
Disable MS firewall ( it gets enabled by default ) since it does NOT check outgoing traffic, only incoming.
As to the choice of what other firewall, if you do a search on the subject here, you will find a very diverse set of opinions as to what firewall is best.
I used to be a big supporter of ZA until the latest fiasco and now use Sygate freebie which seem to work fine with SP2.

I agree with Viking completely. MS will "tweak" SP2 but not by modifying SP2 itself, but rather by adding updates to it. As I intimated in another thread, I think any future updates to the OS will require that SP2 be installed first.

You guys (responders to my original posts) are great! Thank you so much for taking time to provide meaningful advice.
