Re: Problem with page numbers (xp)

    1. Make sure that you have a next page section break at the end of page 1. You should then have 2 sections.
    2. Go to view/headers & footers.
    3. Arrow down to the section 2 header.
    4. Use the format page number button on the header & footer toolbar (shaped like a hand holding paper).
    5. Format the page number to restart at 1 for that section.

If you're putting the {page} field in the header & don't want it to appear on page 1 at all, disconnect the headers using the "same as previous" button on the header/footer toolbar. Then you can delete the field in the section 1 header. Easier to do this than to explain. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Problem with page numbers (xp)

This Word file consists of 13 pages - the first page is an instruction page for internal use, it will be discarded after printing. The next 12 pages are the pages that will need to be numbered. I have tried to tell Word that pages 2-13 are a separate section and just to number them, but it insists on including the instruction page at the beginning when it numbers, so the numbers are incorrect. I do not seem to be able to get it to make pages 2-13 into a separate section and number them. Can someone tell me the correct procedure to do this?
    Thanks

Still can't get it to work.
I inserted the next page section break and noticed it created a blank page immediately after the break, so I deleted that page. When I go into View Headers and Footers I can see that I have successfully created sections 1 and 2 where I want them. I scroll down to page 1 of section 2, click in the footer, click the Format Page Number button, tell it to start at 1, click OK, it returns to the document but there are no page numbers.

OK I got it now. After following your steps, I needed to click in the footer and then click Insert Page Number on the toolbar.
    Thanks for the help.

Glad you figured it out. I was a little rushed earlier & left out inserting the page number field.
