    Extra Spaces in Report (2000)

    Hi,
I have a report, an example is attached, that when data wraps to a second on a field it leaves a gap between 2 records. I have Can Grow/Shrink set to yes on all fields and the detail section. I used rectangles around each field to emulate grid lines. Any ideas as to why it would leaves gaps?
    Thanks,
    Deb

Hard to say without seeing the design.
Why do you use rectangles ? Why don't you use the borders of the controls ?
If you post a stripped version of your db, somebody can have a look at it. See <post#=401925>post 401925</post#> from Hans to help you get under the 100k limit.

Have you set CanGrow to yes for the Rectangles and Vertical Lines?
They look the same size in the cases where the data has wrapped.

Rectangles and lines don't have a can grow property.
Wath would be the utility of that ? With what would they grow ?

Sorry, I didn't bother to check this, but it seems to me that remains the problem with this report.

The Detail section has Grown, but the lines and rectangles have not.

That's why I suggest to use the borders instead of rectangles.
If the purpose is to have every record the same height, then the can grow and can shrink of the controls should be set to No and height of the controls should be the same as that from the rectangles (with the risk that the text will not fit into it).

Re: Extra Spaces in Report (2000)

I'm not using the borders of the controls because of how it lays out, meaning the data buts up against each field because I have them touching. If I use the borders is there a way to put like an inside margin? But in the example is seems that the rectangle is growing or shrinking with the data it just puts a whole gap between records.
    Thanks,
    Deb

Another thing I just noticed is if I use the borders of the controls, if the control is empty it doesn't print the borders, so that's another reason I was using the rectangles and lines.
    Thanks,

Re: Extra Spaces in Report (2000)

Here in attachment a sample of a report like you want, I think.
Pay attention to the facts that
1- There are two horizontal lines, one in the page header section and one in the detail section. You may not see them if you don't increase these two sections.
2- The vertical lines are drawn in the On Print event of the detail section :
    Me.Line (0.25, 0)-(0.25, 22), Color
Where 0.25 the distance is the line will be draw from the left margin.
0 and 22 are from the top of the detail section to 22 inch down (the maximum for a normal page)

    Hope this help

    Here Helen's site
The technique is similar as in what I send you in my previous post. I draw lines, she draw boxes.
