    Messinger and Outlook (Outlook 2003)

A long time ago, I turned off the Windows Messenger, as I never use it. I run Outlook 2003 at work, and after installing WinXP SP2, I have noticed that Messenger starts every time I start Outlook 2003 (I see the Messenger icon in the tray - with an "X" as I am not signed in). If I try to close Messenger, I get a message that "there re other applications running that use the features in Messenger, and they must be stopped before existing Messenger". The application is apparently Outlook 2003, since when I exit Outlook, I can also exit Messenger. Has anyone noticed this behavior? Is there anything I can do about it? I want to completely kill Messenger, but it seems Microsoft has added some new hooks into Outlook.

<img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>, SP2 at home didn't restore Messenger on Office XP. Can you retry Doug Knox's Messenger removal techniques to see if they still work to remove Messenger?

I ran the script and it appears to have killed Messenger. Thanks very much!

Did they change the Options dialog in Outlook 2003? In Outlook 2002, you can stop Messenger from loading with Outlook under Tools>Options..., Other tab, down toward the bottom.

I had the same issue after installing SP2. I had rid myself of it (Running Office 2003), but after the SP2 install, it was haunting me again. The script seems to have worked. Many thanks!
