A long time ago, I turned off the Windows Messenger, as I never use it. I run Outlook 2003 at work, and after installing WinXP SP2, I have noticed that Messenger starts every time I start Outlook 2003 (I see the Messenger icon in the tray - with an "X" as I am not signed in). If I try to close Messenger, I get a message that "there re other applications running that use the features in Messenger, and they must be stopped before existing Messenger". The application is apparently Outlook 2003, since when I exit Outlook, I can also exit Messenger. Has anyone noticed this behavior? Is there anything I can do about it? I want to completely kill Messenger, but it seems Microsoft has added some new hooks into Outlook.
