    Why I hate Access 2003 (2003 SR1)

None of the following happens in Access 97/2000:
    1. Report --- DoCmd.Maximize in the Open event executes. But then Access executes View | Zoom | Fit to Window (without being asked to), and the report shrinks.
    2. Report --- In Design view, the Properties window shows several attributes that apply only to forms.
    3. Form --- When a form with subform opens, the subform flickers continuously, and its totals line is missing. Also, part of an underlying form appears on the bottom of the subform. Clicking the control button to print the current record causes a hang. Clicking on the Taskbar icon of any other window (or the Desktop), and then back to Access, "cures" the problem.
    4. Form --- When pointer moves across edges of all Labels, on any page of a Tab Control, the entire form "quivers." Labels outside the Tab Control don't cause this effect.

Items 3 and 4 sound like a problem with the video driver you are using rather than with Access 2003 - at least they are problems that I've not seen when working with 2003. Not sure about the others - though I don't recall seeing any form properties in reports I've worked on in 2003.

Point 1 : If you set the "AutoResize" property of the report to "No" it does not happen.

Point 2 : What are some examples ? I notice there are a lot more report properties, but I haven't bothered to work out if any of the new ones don't work. I notice that autoResize is one of the new ones. (Iam comparing with 2000, as I don't have XP.)

    Points 3 and 4 : I agree with Wendell. I don't have these problems.

I installed Office 2003 in a separate folder (as Microsoft said I could), so I can open the same forms in Access 2000, on the same computer. When I do, they work just like they should...Go figure!

    Point 1: It worked...Thanks!
Point 2: e.g., Auto Center, which Access help says is only for forms
Points 3 & 4: I don't have the problems either, except on two forms, in two different databases. Both work fine in Access 2000 (on the same computer) but go bonkers in Access 2003!

    Re: Why I hate Access 2003 (2003 SR1)

When I look up Help on autocenter, I find that Help tells me it applies to forms and reports, and when I look at the Report object, one of its properties is its autocenter property.

I agree that the Help topic on autocenter talks about forms, but I think it does apply to reports.

Items 3 and 4 are known bugs within that heap of <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> that passes for Access 2003. This article describes the problem for #3 and possible fixes (none of which worked for me) <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

#4 is mentioned in this article

Further to my earlier post - SP1 seems to fix the 'never-loading' continuous form problem.
