System Restore vs ASR (Windows XP SP1 Home)

I have Windows XP Home and want to add the backup feature, so I can backup before installing SP2. In the documenation regarding installing the backup feature, it says that automated system recovery probably will not work in xp home. So, I was just wondering if this is the same as system restore. I've read much information about asr and system restore and just can't figure it out. What I really need to know is, if I install windows back-up program will system restore still work? Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Scarlett,
The backup system built into XP is really NOT worth messing around with. There are many limitations to it and most of the users here do not bother to use it.
Your question regarding SR: Thet are two separate and distinct programs. It will not be affected if you do decide to install MS Backup.
I would just set a new System Restore point before installing SP2.
If you want a GOOD way to backup, I would get a copy of Acronis "True Image". This can create an exact image of one or more of your HDs and you can restore either the whole image or just individual files as needed.
You can download a free trial or buy it for $49.95US, HERE

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Thanks, I'll look into "True Image".
