    Links don't stick (2002/2003)

I have a "master" Excel workbook that is updated with information from another workbook that has data entered and changed and then saved. I can open the master workbook, then open the other one that is linked to the master, but I always have to Edit|Links and reestablish the link to the source and update the data. If it's linked, why isn't it linked and stay that way?

    Normally they should.
Are you using network paths for the links?

Also make sure that your linked workbooks don't have symbols ie. (#), etc in them. I have found that these can do funny things to links too! stick with standard naming conventions!

Yes, the workbooks are on the office internal network. How does that influence the link references?

Do the links change or do they "disappear"?

What do they change from and to (if they change)?

Network links just create a whole lot more modes of failure <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. This is because there are many more dependencies on things remaining exactly as they were.
Steve's question is the one that will help.

Well, since I'm in West Palm Beach, FL -- I can't check the office network system today because of the evacuation and pending hurricane.
Will have to check Tuesday. Thanks for your input. I'll report back next week...

Best wishes with the weather - hope it doesn't get too out of hand.

    I'll second that wish, Kevin.
    Not many hurricanes here!
