    Add Remove Missing Programs

    I use several utilities for cleaning my computer of clutter. One of them is Easy Cleaner. I seem to have damaged my add remove list in Control Panel. It doesn't list all of the installed programs on my computer now. Although this hasn't effected the way my computer runs, I was wondering if there was a fix. I tried using the undo files in Easy Cleaner but that didn't seem to work.
    Any ideas???

    Re: Add Remove Missing Programs

    I'm not sure how to go about putting them back, other than by restoring a backup or reinstalling the apps. The list in the Add/Remove dialog box is based on a number of subkeys under the key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionUninstall

    Some of the subkeys are the actual name that appears. e.g. I have
    102 Dalmatians Activity Center

    The string values for this are:
    Display Name 102 Dalmatians Activity Center
    UninstallString C:WINDOWSIsUninst.exe -fC:PROGRA~1LAURA102DAL~1DeIsL1.isu

    Other subkeys are something like:

    {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}

    which happens to be the Google toolbar. I don't know how to find a list for each of your installed apps that aren't displayed. The good news is that this won't affect you, unless you want to uninstall an app that you can't recall. Most apps have an uninstall file (like unwise.exe). Double clicking that file will perform the same as the Add/Remove applet. There are a couple of entries that you would want to keep. e.g. MS Internet Explorer has a repair function that you can access from Add/Remove.

    Re: Add Remove Missing Programs

    Just adding to Phil's information, some programs place an uninstall entry in the Start -> Programs menu. You could right-click any entries there, that don't appear in Add/Remove, to see where they're meant to be pointing. But I doubt it's worth the hassle/ risk of trying to manually reinstate such entries in the registry, just so they appear in the Control Panel applet - they already exist on the Start menu if you need to use them.

    There are also "enhanced" Add/ Remove utilities available. They supposedly pick up potentially more than the native Windows applet. I don't know how/ if they work, but maybe they'll show the ones you think have vanished.

    I just read about this <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> program, which I haven't tried, but might be of help:

    Nice find. Looks interesting, although I haven't tried it. I Googled on it & couldn't find anything negative.

    Just tried it - tiny, self-contained .exe, no install, shows lots of info in a grid. Nice little utility.
