    Wireless Problem

Hi guys, hope you can give some advice on the problem I've got on my home system.

I've had a wired XP / Win98 network for some time which has worked well with internet connection sharing (USB ADSL broadband) as well as file and printer sharing. The XP box is about 2 1/2 years old and has been kept up to date with all critical updates apart from SP2

Last week I bought a new laptop which has 802.11g wireless built in. To be able to use the laptop around the house I bought a Belkin F5D7000 wireless card for the XP machine. I'm having problems with the installation of the card. Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong, or possible approaches to allow me to get a working system with the equipment I have.

As recommended, I loaded the s/w before installing the PCI card. On fitting the card it picked up and installed the (unsigned) drivers OK and allows me to set up the wireless network for an ad-hoc connection. I've been able to get file sharing OK, but can't get ICS to work, but only so long as I don't restart the XP machine.

The biggest problem I have is that if I close down my xp machine it fails to restart again, complaining of lack of virtual memory and not allowing any programs to start. To get back to a workable system I have to restart in safe mode and then do a system restore to before I installed the drivers.

I can't work out whether its a problem with the card, the network bridge (whatever that is), or if its something else I've not thought about.

    Any ideas ?

    Re: Wireless Problem

    <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20> An interesting development.
I took the PCI Wi-fi card out a couple of days ago and the machine was fine; Needing to transfer some files over yesterday evening I re-made the connection using the LAN cable this time, using the network wizard to connect the machines.

This morning the XP machine wouldn't start again, so it's not the Wi-Fi card, its the Network <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Now, does anyone have a clue what I can try next ?
