Missing Word document (Win XP/Office 2003)

My friend had been working on a Word document for apparently 2 days, saving it multiple times. After a reboot today, the file can not be located. It is not listed as a recently opened file, and when looking at the computer closely it shows no activity on his account (Win XP) for 2 days. It's as if the harddrive had a glitch and it has no record of him opening and working on this file. Computer was scanned for *.doc files and no luck.
    Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks!

Is your friend logged on under the same profile as the one he was using when he created that document ??

    Is this standalone or networked?

It is a stand alone, and both user accounts were logged into to see if the file could be found.
Good news, however, I suggested trying the Go-Back feature and interestingly the file was found. But here's the bizarro event:
The Go-Back went back to 24 hours before the file was lost at 1:46 PM CST. The file was located, but not on the recently used file list, on the hard drive. (It wasn't there before). The last file save date and time were that same day at 6:15 PM (??) Not sure how that could even happen, but happily the file has been recovered.

If your friend values that file I'd suggest getting it safely OFF that computer until it can be determined what the issue is and get it sorted out. <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> That is not "Normal" behaviour under any circumstances and the file (and what ever other data your friend values) will be safer if it's kept on a CD or other external backup medium Until the problm is resolved.
