Keyboard Recomend, Silent

I am in desperate need of a new keyboard. I don't want anything special, no cordless, whistles or bells. Can anyone recommend one with a light touch and SILENT keys. I hate the cheap sounding clickity-clack and rattling that this generic one has. I have heard that Dell did one, but I couldn't find anything on the UK website.

    Regards

Acoustically speaking, an entirely silent keyboard could not work! Part of the noise is your fingers impacting on the keytops - you would have to do this very gently and very slowly to minimise the noise. (And do we have long fingernails, perhaps??!)

That said, a quick Google on quiet keyboard produced something which is SO QUIET -- oops! -- so quiet that it can be used in a courtroom! (So it's down to the Old Bailey for you!).

    Re: Keyboard Recomend, Silent

In the very early days, there were keyboard wars where some companies would advertise that their keyboards had a satisfying mechanical feel and sound, like your old Selectric typewriter, in contrast to those mushy new (and cheaper) keyboards.

Dell does have a keyboard named QuietKey, but in a 5 second test, it didn't seem a whole lot quieter than my old Microsoft Natural keyboard from 1997. If I recall correctly, the quitest design is one that uses a rubber dome under the key which gets pushed down on something that requires only a light touch to complete a circuit. Probably not silent, but very quiet. Only problem is the soft feel, but I guess you get used to it after a while.
