page numb on diff odd/even w/columns (Windows XP Office XP)

    Hey,
I have a document that has different odd/even pages. I have one-column and two-column sections in the doc often on the same page. It seems that Word has no clue what page number to put in. I get two Page 1, then three Page 2. It works fine until I start putting the two-column sections.

    Any clue
    tks

One of the most difficult things to understand about sections and odd/even page numbering is that Word uses something called SAME AS PREVIOUS.
What that means is exactly this: If you have SAME AS PREVIOUS turned ON, it is taking the same header (or footer) as the previous section OF THE SAME TYPE.

    1. If you can upload your file, we can have a look, but these things are very difficult to troubleshoot in a forum
    2. You can go to http://www.theofficeexperts.com/News...s/July2002.doc and read up on sections/breaks and how they affect page numbering.
    3. You can come back and let us know where every section break is. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Also: Whenever possible, I try to avoid using columns. I use tables instead. However, I have been in a position where I've created manuals exactly as you describe. It's not very fun when you don't quite understand. Good luck!

Well I have mastered the beast.
I had different section in my doc. Every chapter starts in a new section at Chapter X page 1. I started by making every section continue the page numbering from the previous section. Then I started making my columns. I went back to the beginning of the section and I told it to start the numbering of the pages at 1. Voil
