    Never? Or in special situations?
Some macro actions cancel Excel's clipboard, are there any event driven macros on your system?

In order to give you effective or useful help, is it possible to give us more detail in order to answer your question! It depends on what you are copying and how you are going about attempting to use Paste Special.
Tell us in point form what your actions are leading up to Paste Special?
    Regards,
    Rudi

You do not provide any details.

    Start a new excel session
    In Cell A1 enter a
    in Cell A2 enter:
    <pre>=A1</pre>

    Select A2 and Edit -copy
Select A3 and edit - paste special values <ok>

Does this work? Then please describe an instance where paste special does not work.

If it does not work, please describe where it does not work.

It works find for me...Not too sure why your PC ain't working.
Are you copying correctly. If you choose cut you are not able to paste special!
Also try this: Open a new workbook before you copy. Once the new worbook is open, then copy, switch to the new book and choose edit, paste special!
    Hope you come right!

    Re: excel (2002 sevicepack 2)

A couple of things to check for:

1- Select Options from the Tools menu.

2- On the View Tab make sure "Windows in Task Bar" has a check next to it.

3- On the General Tab make sure that the "Ignore other applications" is NOT checked.

If that does not correct the problem, then please describe IN DETAIL what happens when you try to use Paste Special. Is the menu command grayed out? Does it give some kind of error message? Exactly what is happening?

    Re: excel (2002 sevicepack 2)

I get regular updates emailed to me an I copy a range into my master file (which has protected sheets). I find that if I copy, then unprotect then try to paste, the clipbd is blank.
The trick is to unprotect first, then go to the copy source and copy. Then come back and paste.

Maybe something similar is happening for you. HTH
