    Adobe pdf attachments (Outlook 2002)

Hi- This is my first post, go easy on me!

I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 installed. I'm using Outlook 2002. When I am on the internet I can access Adobe pdf files without any trouble. But if someone sends me the file as an attachment I get a, "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed". In order to access the file I have to open Adobe Acrobat and open the file that way. Can this be fixed or is it an incompatibility issue between Adobe and Microsoft?

    Thanks,
    Barbara

If you save/drag the file to the desktop and double-click, do you get the same behavior (error if Acrobat is closed, works if it is open)?

Do you have the full Acrobat package or the free Reader? If you have ever had an earlier version of one or the other, you might want to uninstall it formally using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet. (I installed Adobe Reader 6 without first uninstalling 5 and ended up having to uninstall 5 and reinstall 6 to get things straightened out.)

P.S. Welcome!! Hope we can get it right on the first problem. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Saving it to the desktop doesn't solve my problem. I get the same message. I have the full Adobe package. I have to run now, but maybe I'll try the old uninstall/install remedy tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm back. I tried uninstalling and then installing Adobe Acrobat 6.0, but I stall cannot double click on an adobe file and have it open up. So maybe this isn't an Outlook issue? What 's next?

Wow, a reinstall usually cures what I suspect the problem is, an incorrect file association for PDF files. But, I guess we'll have to examine this manually.

In Windows Explorer, choose Tools>Folder Options..., the File Types tab, scroll to PDF, then click Advanced (assuming you have Windows XP, the buttons seem to change names between different versions of Windows). First question: are any of the actions bold, indicating that they are the default "double-click" action for a PDF file? Normally, it would be the open action. If it isn't, you can use the Set default button to make open the default. If it is, highlight open and click Edit... or Modify..., as the case may be. What do you have? (Mine won't let me Edit for some reason; I may need to restart Windows or something!)
