RF Types

"RF Types (Registered File Types) is a small utility that simplifies the viewing of registered file extensions on your system.

Unlike the Windows utility that allows the same, RF Types allows you to see which file's are registered for the "Open With" dialog, without your having to actually do anything first.

RF Types features include;
o View registered file types
o Filter "Open With" key's
o Import/Export registry key's (individual key, list of key's, whole registry)
o Backup registry and/or registry key's
o Save list of file types for viewing in Notepad, or alternative editor(s) "

Seems like a fairly handy little app that's less hassle than drilling down into Windows Explorer.
807KB download, 250KB once installed.

Re: RF Types

Hi Alan,

807 KB? There's an asterisk in the Basic Install version:

> Suitable for those upgrading to a new version, and those whom already have the required files.

I don't know what such required files may be, so I'm getting the 1.72 MB, Full Install version.

Thank you

I think it's just badly expressed on the website. I believe the full version contains VB runtimes and the basic one doesn't - that's all. If you're upgrading then the assumption is that the original install must have ensured the presence of the runtimes already. Go the basic - I did and had no problems.

Just what I feared... By the time I read your post I'd already got the full version!
Thank you anyway!

Look on the bright side - now you have a spare set of VB runtimes!

Re: RF Types

Hi Alan,

During the installation I found no notice of a VB runtimes set. It's an EXE file but it's not a self extracting archive... It will install the app right away.

... fortunately, because I think I have at least 3 sets already. I remember having one in the folder containing Karen Kenworthy's apps. The rest are scattered throughout in my Programs folder and I think it would be faster to redonwload the runtimes than having to find them. Oh yes, Windows has a built-in search option. That would hasten things a little.

Re: RF Types

I can only think that the installer (which holds the runtimes) may have detected your own runtimes as already present, so didn't bother to add/ replace them. But I do think that the size difference between basic and full installations is the inclusion of said runtimes within.
