    Cannot Lock File Message (2000)

Does anyone know why I get the above message when I try to open the database. The db is stored in a folder on a network drive and it is not locked by anyone when this message occurs.
    Thanks,
    Deb

Do you have full permissions for the directory where the db is stored ? You must be able to read, write and delete in this directory.
Is there a ldb file in this directory with the same name as the db ? Try to delete it when nobody is using the db.

Yes I have full rights. And no that file isn't there. A file appears when someone opens it, but i goes away when they close the database. Any other thoughts?

Can you copy the db to another directory on the server and run it ?
Can you run other db's in the same directory ?
If you copy the db to a local drive can you open it ?
If not, maybe you can create a new empty db and try to import all object from the offending one.

Re: Cannot Lock File Message (2000)

I do have another database on the same Shared drive, different folder and I have the same problem but it's intermittent. Sometimes 3 people will be in the database and then a 4th tries to get in and gets that error message. Everyone will get out and then everyone, all 4 people, can get back in.

Seems to me that you have some network problems, but I don't know how to track this. Sorry, maybe someone else have better ideas.

How far does it let you in before the error message comes up? Is there a startup form that opens? If so, does it happen after this?

Have you split the database, or is the whole database on the server?

This may not be applicable, but if the whole database is on the server and you don't have a close for each form with NoLock in place then all it requires is a person to filter a form and it will ask if you wish to save the form.

The whole database is on the server and it is not split. It opens access, but before the main menu comes up the message comes up. I believe I close all forms but I can double check that. Where is NoLock at for me to check that?
    Thanks,
    Deb

I'm sorry, I meant acSaveNo as a parameter on the DoCmd.Close line.

What happens if you split the database and put the BE on the server and the FE on your PC? Does the error still happen?

Re: Cannot Lock File Message (2000)

I haven't split a database yet and i'm not the only one that uses it. So I would have to split it and put the front end on everyone's pc and BE on the server. I'll give that a try I guess. What's weird is today no one has gotten that message. Is there a lot of work involved in splitting?
