Open bookmarks in a new tab? (FireFox 0.9.3)

When I click a link from a toolbar folder, it opens in the same tab that is active. I want to open it in a new tab. Under Tab/TabBrowser Extensions Preferences.../Use tab/Bookmarks, I have "Open in new tab" checked. Any ideas?

Re: Open bookmarks in a new tab? (FireFox 0.9.3)

I haven't found a solution to that yet, other than (I think) a setting which makes *all* links open in new tabs - but then navigating through the Lounge ends up opening about 30 new tabs!

My usual modus operandi is to left-click-and-drag the toolbar bookmark onto either a bit of empty space on the tab-bar, or onto an open page. If you drag it onto an existing tab, it will open in that tab, which can have the advantage of re-using a tab rather than creating a new one.

I still haven't found out how to make it switch focus to the newly opening tab, so if you know the answer to that....

Under Tab/TabBrowser Extensions Preferences.../Use tab/New tab/Load in forground should put the focus on the new tab. I don't use it because I want to be able to open several topics from a board in the background & then take them one at a time.

Hi,
Have you tried using middle click on the link, it opens my links in a new tab.

My mouse isn't that advanced...no middle click. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'm still hoping that I'm overlooking a setting. With all the other options regarding tabs, you'd think this would be one.

Re: Open bookmarks in a new tab? (FireFox 0.9.3)

Hi Phil

I want to open it in a new tab

I'm using Firebird 0.6, but that's the way mine has always worked (ie. bookmarks and toolbar links open in a new tab),
I'm not sure what setting sets the preference but it seems there must be one.

Have a Great day!!!

Hi Phil

Try this........

Tools > Advanced Preferences > (New Window Opens) > Browser > browser tabs > browser.tabs.opentabfor > (choices)
Right click on your choice(s) to edit true vs false.
The sequence might be a tad different in Firefox.

Have a Great day!!!

Maybe post the question on the Firefox support board?

Re: Open bookmarks in a new tab? (FireFox 0.9.3)

Thanks to everyone. It's weird. I UNchecked Tools/Options/Tabs Options/Tabs/Load middle-clicked URLs in new tabs (since I don't have a middle click on my mouse). All of a sudden, my bookmarks are opening in new tabs. I'll come back if it changes back. Maybe I'm hallucinating.

CTRL + Click works the same for me (i.e. just the same as a middle mouse click). HTH

Re: Open bookmarks in a new tab? (FireFox 0.9.3)

Thanks, but actually that doesn't work for me (except on normal links). If I Ctrt+click a link, it opens in a new tab. But if I Ctrl+click a bookmark from a menu or toolbar, it opens in the current tab. But I now find that just clicking the bookmark or toolbar button will open in a new tab in the background, so I don't know what the problem was before. Perhaps I was always using Ctrl+click.

Try looking at your settings under Tab|Tabbrowser Extensions Preferences|Advanced - about halfway down. Does that have any impact on your configuration? HTH

I don't have an Advanced unless I go to Tab|Tabbrowser Extensions Preferences|Use Tab|Advanced. Do you have something different?

I think we're talking about the same thing. Don't you have an option to Open a Bookmark in a new tab using a CTRL + Click. Without checking the box, the contents of the tab with current focus will be replaced. HTH

I can't find an option to "open a bookmark" anywhere. Where do you find this? could you attach a picture of what you have under Advanced, if it's different?
Thanks,
