    Design mode (Word2000/3)

Staff run two applications Word 2000 and 2003.
I started creating a template in Word 2000 with macros and then continued it in Word 2003.
Now when I try to open the template in Word 2000 again, the macros are disabled and it opens in design mode.
When I try to deactivate design mode, it does not allow me to.
    (In 2003 it works fine).
How can I activate the macros so that when the document is opened in 2000, they are available?
    Any ideas

Given I have neither 2000 or 2003 I cannot provide details.

However, in 2003 you could presumably export the macros as a text file. Then, in 2000, reload them as "new" and continue from there.

You should be able to create macros in any of the VBA versions of Word and open the template in another version.
In some cases, the code will not run if features are used in more recent versions that are not available in earlier versions.
And you have to make sure that the References are correct,

Did you password protect the project in Word 2003?
I forget whether that might cause a problem.
My recollection is that Word 97 had this problem, so maybe password protected projects cannot be used in earlier versions.
    Is this the problem?

Are you sure that the 2000 machine has macros ENABLED? What you describe is classic symptoms of macro security being set to high on the 2000 machine.
