Simple determination for Quarter Number (Excel 2000)

I have to choose a rate based on the quarter a date falls in. I didn't find in Search any simple way to convert a Date (Date Placed in Service) to a Quarter number. I was hoping to do a Choose function for the rate based on the quarter. Would this be a good approach? Thanks.

Re: Simple determination for Quarter Number (Excel

With the date in cell A1 the following results in 1 for January-March, 2 for April-June etc

=INT((MONTH(A1)+2)/3)

If the date is in A1, then:

=INT((MONTH(A1)-1)/3)+1
