Replacement for Word97 Online Layout (Word2002(XP))

We got a new computer that had Word 2002 included on it. We've been using Office 97 Pro and opened a document created there in the new Word version and things got messed up. The problem is that the document was meant for viewing in 'online layout'. Specifically there was a left frame had a clickable TOC (automatically created from the headings in the document) that took you directly to the heading you selected in the document in the right pane.

That disappeared suddenly when we brought the document up in the Word 2002. My question is two-fold:
    1) Did the new 'web layout' replace the old 'online layout'?
    2) Is there an easy way to recover the functionality of the old 'online layout' document browsing without having to do the conversion manually.

    TIA!!

I don't remember Online Layout. But it sounds like a Document Map-like feature. Does View>Document Map pick up the entries you want in your TOC?
