Modifying a CHART: Select Data Series

I feel really stupido to ask this. I have several Bar charts that I have moved the X-Axis points up into the Bars as labels. If I want to change the formating or color of the labels, I click on a label and they all are selected and I can do my thing. But, when I try to select all the Data point Bars to format them or change their background color, I can only select one at a time. I have right & left clicked til my fingers are blue and I get no where. I tried help and find nothing to help me.
Anyone know how to do this, I would be grateful if you would let me know.
    Thanks
    Stephen

It seems like the data bars are already selected when you click on one them in order to select. If you click on the plot area and then one single right click on a bar should give you a menu where you can choose to format the data series.

Perhaps you could take a look at your mouse settings.

When I can't select something with the mouse, I use the keyboard. When one chart object is selected, press the up arrow or the down arrow to scroll repeatedly through all the chart objects. You get there either way, just one is faster than the other. I use this often when two data series are so close together I can't get the one I want with the mouse.
I'm not sure but I think that you can use the right and left arrows to select points within the series.

And then control-1 gives you the objects properties dialog screen.

Yes, very helpful, I use these techniques all the time.

Once a data series is selected, use the right arrow key to move to a specific data point (which is how this thread started...)
