    Printing Labels (VB6/Access 2000)

I am working on an application with a VB front-end to an Access backend.

I will need to print labels for the products that are in the database.

Each label could potentially be different than the others. I may have 3 of 1, 1 of another, 2 of a third, and so on.

I may only need half of the available labels to be populated, too.

Any suggestions on how to set up something to print like this?

    Thanks!

Do you mean the size and shape of the label would need to be different?

Is a specialized label printer an option, or do you need to be able to use a generic laser printer?

    Sorry, I should have specified.

Only the contents of the label will change, similar to mailing labels.

The labels will be standard Avery labels, though I don't have the number with me.

These will be printed using a standard inkjet printer...

    Re: Printing Labels (VB6/Access 2000)

While I know very little about Access reports, I suspect that it might be easiest to automate Word to do your printing. There are standard templates for labels and, setting aside the problem of "waste" for a moment, you can easily spray text into the label cells (table cells constituting labels, with blank cells in between for spacing). Depending on the workflow, though, you could end up only printing a few labels at a time. To efficiently re-use the same sheet, your application either will need to store the "next available label" and the user will need to put that sheet back in the printer, or you will need to let the user specify the next available label. Or both. Does that help?
