    Autotext Entries

    Hi All

I havent been on for a while but its good to be back. I am having a problem with AutoText entries. In my company, normal.dot is stored on the server, everyone has a connection and it is picked up from there. Because it is loaded fresh everytime you start Word no-one can save any autotext entries. I was advised the last time I was on the forum to create a personal.dot, save it into office, startup and attach it using templates and addins. I have successfully created and saved it into the correct place and it does appear as an unchecked option in my templates and addins but when I check it and try to ok it it tells me "the addin template is not valid". Can anyone advise me as to what I might be doing wrong, or offer any alternative solutions to saving autotext entries. I am using office 97 sr2.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Boyley,

It sounds like you have a document masquerading as a template.

In other words, a document with a *.dot extension.

When you created personal.dot, did you save it as a Template? e.g. Change the Save as Type in File/Save As to "Document Template" or use File/New and in Create New select the Template option?

Try creating your template again. Once it is valid template then Word will automatically load it upon starting.

    Hi there

thanks for the help, it worked a treat. Now I have the template attaching nicely but it is not appearing as an option to save any autotext entries into. Do you have any idea as to how I can get it to come up as an option

    Thanks
