Can't send e-mail (Outlook 2000 SP3)

I just installed Windows XP SP-2 and now I cannot send e-mail at all. I get the following error:

Server Response: '451 4.4.5 Error writing message temporaries - error creating
    queue entry for xxxxxx@lincsat.com file
    /apps/mail/queues/mta/queue/tcp_local/098/ZZ0I3U00LJBH92EB.19 (I/O error)'.
(Account: 'LinCsat', SMTP Server: 'smtp.direcway.com', Error Number: 0x800ccc6a).

I also cannot receive e-mail on one account due to a "time-out" error:

A timeout occurred while communicating with the server. (Account: 'DirecWay', POP3
    Server: '127.0.0.1', Error Number: 0x800ccc19).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Check your SP2 firewall settings.

The XP Firewall is disabled. And my own Firewall isn't the culprit either.

I cannot receive e-mail on ONE account, which ironically has the exact same SMTP server setting as the one which can receive. But I cannot send anything.

The first one sounds like an error on the server side. I've never seen such a specific error message from a mail server, but clearly it is not an Outlook message and unless the server fault was caused by some kind of message corruption or firewall setting, I don't see how it could be your fault.

The second one points at your own computer ( Server: '127.0.0.1'). Do you run a virus filtering proxy program (most major AVs that do POP mail filtering use a proxy, rather than with a plug-in inside Outlook, because it works with all POP3 mail clients)? Could it have somehow gotten shut down or disabled by SP2?

(Edited by Pilgrim on 10-Sep-04 15:27. )
I think you are correct on the first problem. I did a search online before posting here and what little there was out there seemed to point to a server problem. Funny, because about 5 minutes ago, the problem has disappeared.

On the second one.... yes, I use "SpamWeasel" which uses that Loopback for POP3 but that too seems to be working now. Go figure??

EDIT: Actually, the time-out issue is back with that one server. Oh well........

So far only 1 problem with SP-2, so I'm relatively happy thus far.

    Thanks all!!

Are you still having problems with this? I have found a possible cause - Problems with loopback address range and SP2

    Tony,

Thanks for the MS referral article. But, no.... I am no longer experiencing this problem. Everything is working just hunky dorey!
