    Smart Popup Blocker

Has anyone used Smart Popup Blocker? If so, your thoughts/experience? I use the Google popup blocker, but adding redundancy is always a consideration.

I did a search on Google Groups to see what was said & it seems to be positive. I haven't used it, though.

Ages and ages ago "someone" (it might have been me?!) posted the link to a Popup Blocker Tester, which tried a number of variations on producing popups to see how well your software deals with them. There seem to be lots of them available now...

Since then I have added the Google Toolbar popup blocker, the Norton Internet Security one (by default), and the new Windows Firewall (or is it SP2?) has one somewhere, which still seems to operate even if you turn the firewall off.

The difficulty is that some (stupid) websites still use popup windows to display legitimate stuff that you actually want to read (Tesco, the UK supermarket chain and financial and other services provider, actually displays a message, which I paraphrase as: "If you didn't see the screen we were expecting you to see because you are using a popup blocker, then click here and you'll get it").

    Hi Dennis

I've been a great advocate of the venerable, but little mentioned Proxomitron for a long time. It does a lot more than effectively block ads & popups. You can configure it to get web pages served up just about any way you want. Or if you prefer, it does a great job "straight out of the box".

    Together with a decent firewall plus AV protection, it's all you need IMHO. <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> of course <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.
