    MS097.DLL Error in OL 98 (Outlook 98)

Just reinstalled Outlook 98 on reformatted HD. When I try to customize toolbars, get error: "Outlook has caused an error in MS097.DLL. Outlook will now close."
Get same error message when I close Outlook 98.

Try the /resetoutlookbar startup switch per <!mskb=213843>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 213843<!/mskb>. If you are running Outlook 98 on an NT, 2k, or XP, OS, also see <!mskb=161723>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 161723<!/mskb>.

It is a little strange that Outlook 98 seems to be using an Outlook 97 DLL. Any chance the installations got a bit mixed up?

Already tried that, John, but with no success. However, you're being so helpful that I'll give it another shot. Thanks again!

Re: MS097.DLL Error in OL 98 (Outlook 98)

Don't think so. In new install, OL98 would not open; said was missing MS097.DLL. Don't know if there's a way to pull that one file from loads of cab files on Outlook disk, so went hunting in backup and did find file in Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice, so copied it to same location in new install.

What IS weird is that with Search Files & Folders this crazy MS097.DLL will not show up in either the newly redone HD or in the backup. It's invisible in a search but it sure ain't invisible to Outlook 98...!

By the way, there's also an MS097F.dll file in same folder so looks like Microsoft just used some files from 97 in 98.

To make hidden files and folders visible, try Windows Explorer's Tools>Folder Options...>View tab. There are a couple of related settings that affect this.

JOHN: "resetoutlookbar" did not make any difference.
