Security Center icon annoyance (XP SP-2)

Anyway to get rid of the "Security Center" icon in the system tray? I have one machine that displays this icon which reports that Norton AV (2003) is installed but it can't determine its status. Norton is just fine, thank you; up to date, etc...

What about a firewall, what is your status there?

You might also find that Norton's AV 2003 may NOT be SP2 compliant. I would suggest that you upgrade to 2004 or the just released 2005 version.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Firewall status is fine. However on both XP machines, in the Security Center, it still shows the XP Firewall as being "On", when in fact it has been turned off because I have Outpost Pro Firewall installed on both.

Upgrading to Norton AV 2004 or 2005 isn't an option for me at this time. I'm quite happy with the less bloated Norton SystemWorks Pro 2003 and I don't have to mess with their new "activation" requirement. Having said that, this icon is only displayed on 1 of the 2 PC's that I have installed SP-2 on. So, I would tend to think it isn't a problem with compliancy, no?

Unless Security Center recongizes your firewall it will not turn off the Windows Firewall. Have you actually checked your connection to see if the Windows Firewall is OFF? Under Control Panel | Security Center there is a Resources box on the left. There should be an entry that says "Change the way Security Center alerts me". Click on that and set it the way you want.

    Joe,

Thanks for the reply. The status for the Firewall is now showing that Outpost is enabled. And, I disabled the AntiVirus monitoring and that got rid of the icon in the System Tray.
