    Pop up blocker

    Hi,
I'm currently using the google toolbar to stop up pop ups. Generally this works, but I still get price comparison pop-ups and credit card offerings. Is there a definitive way to stop this from happening?

You could try the Mozilla browser firefox broswer http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ , I'musing it now, and it works great for me. No popup ads at all.

If you are still having problems, you caled try the programmable http: proxy "Proxomitron" http://www.proxomitron.info/

I'd (always) second Proxomitron. Blocking popups is just one of its myriad of capabilities. Essentially, it lets you be served with web pages the way you want to experience them, rather than the way the server tries to force them on you.

Thanks for that. I'll give Proxomitron a go, seems to be the thing I'm after.

    Nigel,
You also might want to try AdSubtract Pro. It not only blocks pop ups, It can set individual or all sites to block Advertisements, animations, background images, background music, cookies, referrers, Java applets & java scripts, & set proxies and more. I've used it for quite some time and am very happy with it.

As hard as it is to believe, the new pop-up blocker XP SP2 adds to IE 6.0 is very effective, and easy to use. I have been pleasantly surprised. Of course, that means you must make the plunge and install SP2 - which you should eventually do anyway.

Last but not least... some pop-ups may come through the Messenger Service in Windows 2000-XP, if you haven't turned it off or prevented access with a firewall.
