1. ## All Churned Up

1#
Farmer Jones is quite an eccentric dairy farmer. He originally had a total 54 gallons of milk in three churns and he wanted to make sure each churn contained 18 gallons of milk. In order to do this, he did the following:

First he poured 1/4 of the first churn in the second churn.
He then poured 1/2 of the second churn into the third churn.
Finally he poured 1/3 of the third churn into the first churn.

How many gallons did each churn contain before Farmer Jones started pouring?

Correct. Out of interest, did you already know this, Tony, or did you work it out?
Anything strike you about the last sentence?

4. ## Re: All Churned Up

I worked it out - with 18 characters, the name of the country must consist of more than 1 word. I started with a couple of other countries that share the first part of the name.
Anything strike me about the last sentence - no.

So he pats each cow on her forehead, feeds her, milks her and then turns her out to graze. Then he places her output along with three others into one of the churns. He repeats this process for the next two churns and cleans up! Then he happily proceeds to the house to tell his misses she can make her butter and buttermilk for the week

I appreciate your puzzles. Usually, I can only "try" and solve them. This one, however, just made me chuckle and then I was "off and running"!! It must have been the <img src=/S/coffeetime.gif border=0 alt=coffeetime width=32 height=48>
