Making graphic transparent

I want a graphic to be high quality and the background of it to be transparent. I am using Image Composer. If I want it to be tranparent I have to save it as a gif. The jpeg and tiff keep a better quality of the picture, but they will not allow the background to be transparent. I use Frontpage as my Web Program.

This is not a limitation of Image Composer. The jpg format does not support transparency. If you want a transparent image it must be in gif format.

Image Composer is a nice app but for what you are trying to accomplish, I think you will find that its GIF output is fairly poor. I have had problems with it leaving "noise" in the image, and it doesn't seem to matter what format I saved it in.

You would be much better off investing in something like Photoshop, or Paint Shop Pro if PS is too ex$pensive - these have the ability to optimize the color palette for GIF images and render them very cleanly, with transparency.

Alternately, you could fill the background of the image with the same color you use on the page itself, effectively making it transparent since it blends in. I use this technique to embed logos in the headers of web pages where the background is patterned.

image composer is one of those apps that does some things really well, but most things very poorly. saving in .gif format definitely falls into the latter category. nevertheless, i've had success with the method described here: http://www.demitrius.com/mic/index2.shtml

Of course you could always use a PNG (Portable Network Graphic) format. Older browsers can't see 'em, but who cares about them anyway! ;-)
