    Isblank (Excel2000)

    I want to find all blank cells in a column (d). I am trying this formula and it merely appears in the cell I am entering it in instead of returning a true or false. Any ideas?

    =isblank (d2)

    Thanks.

    Re: Isblank (Excel2000)

    They're not hard to find - but it depends what you want to do with them as to the method you'll use

    e.g. =countif(d1:d1000,"")

    would return a single count of blank cells in the first 1000 rows.
    =countif(d:d,"") is hardly likely to be useful as it would return an answer including all the blank cells in the column -approximately 65000

    I just re-read your question - if you mean the text "=isblank(d2)" appears in the cell it means that it is formatted as text.
    Select the cell and reformat it as "general". Then reenter the formula.
