    Extract Folder Security Information? (SP1)

    Hello,

The screenshot shows the NTFS Permissions for a folder.
If you have a LOT OF users, this info. can be overwhelming.
I want to extract the info. into a text file, i.e. WHO can access WHAT.
Is there a tool to do this quickly for me?

    Thanks in advance,

    BD.

The command line utility CACLS that ships with Windows NT/2000/XP will display the privileges by user and/or group to the screen, and you can redirect that to a text file. A very big text file.

I once downloaded and tried out Security Explorer (don't remember the vendor). Due to a problem it created, or that I created due to some misunderstanding about the product, the privileges somehow became unchangeable using the regular permissions dialog and I had to use CACLS to flush and rebuild privileges on hundreds of folders. It was fun!! (Not.)

You could try Somarsoft's DumpSec program, but I suspect it has become orphaned at Windows 2000.

Whatever you do, you will end up with MegaChunks of data, for the display of permissions has no end...

PS How come you're so multilingual? We've had Dutch and German, and what seems to be English <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>, in your posts recently!
