    Default Icons

I know how to set icons for file types that are determined by the 'extension': ".htm", ".doc". Etc.

But where is the setting for such as "http://" or "FTP://"?

    Where do I find these?

    Regards,

"http://" or "FTP://" would be a shortcut rather than a file, would it not?
In which case, I would expect it/them to have the icon of the program that was evoked by them, e.g. IE.

" shortcut rather than a file, would it not"

    I would have thought too...

But this weekend I installed Firefox to try... And, of course, now all the internet sites etc. are showing a Netscape logo... I re-installed IE, but the shortcuts are still showing 'FF' logos...
    ??

    Re: Default Icons

Are you saying they are a file or a shortcut?

And I'm a bit confused by you saying internet sites are showing a Netscape logo, but shortcuts are showing a Firefox logo. Where are the internet sites that show the NS logo?

It may all be down to your file type associations set in Windows Explorer, and what youir default browser is set to be...

    Leif:

"http://www.thirdage.com/WebX?230@214.YP7kbW9UwdU^0@.ee87394" was the first to show up...

I'd seen this before when trying browsers... Something in the install(s) that doesn't entirely set associations...

Through Explorer (file types) is, as you show, the best way to deal with these... I just couldn't locate them...

    I'll take a look, thanks.

    Re: Default Icons

Are you talking about the icon that shows in the browser address bar like the attached?

If so, you are talking about favicons - run a search in the Lounge and you'll find out all about them.

    Re: Default Icons

Other than say "I would have thought too....", you still haven't clarified if it is a file or a shortcut......

    Re: Default Icons

    Leif:

I think we've covered this, but, to "avoid confusion":

After I installed Firefox, internet shortcuts on my desktop, such as "http://www.thirdage.com/WebX?230@214.YP7kbW9UwdU^0@.ee87394", were suddenly all Netscape logo items.

Because I was having issues with the tabs in Firefox (every time I would click on a link it would stay in the same tab and go to the link, rather than starting a new tab), I went back to using NetCaptor.

Any internet links I had on my desktop, however, kept the Netscape logo after the NetCaptor re-assingment as default. I re-installed IE6, but that still didn't catch the problem.

Either Netscape is setting up a "new" association that other browsers aren't re-assigning, or...?

*That's* why I wanted to treat them as shortcuts (or something) to try to figure what was the culprit here...

Hope that's at least a little clearer. I know I have been know to wander on the point, so I hope this will clarify somewhat.

    Re: Default Icons

Sorry, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to help - I keep very few URL shortcuts on my desktop and for those that I have, I have changed the icon to something meaningful.

Depending on which version of FF you were using, the Tabbrowser Preferences extension could sort out your new tab issue - it was recently covered in a thread or two in the Other Browsers forum.
