    repeat rate changes

I have my keyboard repeat rate set to the highest level (fast repeat). never had a problem until recently when the repeat rate changes to about a medium. If I go to the keyboard repeat rate on the control panel, it still says "fast". So I change it to something else, click apply, then change it back to fast and it seems to fix it. But after awhile it goes back.
any ideas on what could be causing this?
I know its not a slowed down system thing.
    thanks,

    rick

    Re: repeat rate changes

    Check your Registry settings:

    HKCUControl PanelKeyboardKeyboardSpeed

The value must be 31(approximately 30 characters per second).

For more information, see Windows 2000 Registry Reference

If this is correct, something else "eating" your system resources. Check your computer for spyware, decrease the number of programs loading at startup, stop and change to "manual" unnecessary services.
Maybe keystroke logger running on your computer?

    Re: repeat rate changes

    I couldn't find that registry...
I am using XP Home, not windows 2000.
Also, you brought up an interesting point on the keyboard logger. How can I determine if one is on my computer?
I run Ad-Aware regularly, so I am not suspecting any spyware.
    Thanks,
    rick

    Re: repeat rate changes

The Reigistry Entry is the same, whether for 2000 or XP - HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelKeyboardKeyboardSpeed. As for the key logger, any of the more popular AV or spyware programs should be able to detect one if it is installed.

    Re: repeat rate changes

    thanks,
I guess there was a typo in the other response on the registry...
I checked it and it was 31, but i am currently not experiencing the problem. I'll check it again if the problem comes again.

    thank you,
    rick
