Can't 'reply' to messages (Outlook Express 6)

(Edited by IreneLinda on 21-Sep-04 18:33. Additional information.)
Help! Tried to reply to new message in Inbox just now with resulting 2 error messages (totally new to me):
1. Operation could not be completed. RICHED32.DLL failed to load. Please reinstall. (clicked OK and got ...)
2. Error opening message. Not enough memory.

Attempts to fix so far on my untechie part:
1. Closed and reopened OE. Same result.
2. Restarted computer. Same result.
3. Checked memory on C drive and there's loads (this is a 4 month old laptop so there's lots of memory).

Messages come in to Inbox with no problem. Wonder if this could be connected at all to my earlier problem of being kicked off OE unexpectedly with no consistent reason that I can discover. Regardless, any idea how to fix this?

Additional information: just tried to open an attachment that came with one of the emails (after saving in My Documents and checking it for viruses). Got same 2 error messages above plus this one: "OE could not be started. It may not be installed correctly. Make sure that your disk is not full or that you're not out of memory. Contact MS support for further assistance. (0x8007000E)" Does this shed any light?

Hopefully,

Linda

PS Yesterday, I created a Restore Point and downloaded Netscape Navigator (needed for a course assignment). Hope I don't have to abort that download because it took ages to download (still on modem here). Will if I have to, but hope it's not related. If I do have to, any way I can save the download on a CD just in case. I downloaded it to a Downloads folder on my desktop, scanned for viruses and then installed it.

Hi Linda,
RICHED32.dll is a "rich text editor control"
It sounds like that DLL is either missing or corrupt. In which case you will have to replace it.

Here is a link to a MS paper that discusses it and how to fix it.

So far as the DL to a CD, if you mean DIRECT download to a CD, I don't think that's possible but I could be wrong here.

Bob,

Wow, you're fast! Tried to post a second edit before anyone got back to me. Decided to try to shut off the computer completely instead of just using "restart" and everything seems to be working now! Sheesh! Am still going to follow your link for more learning. Thanks.

Keep up the good work, Linda.
Sometimes a complete shutdown.....turn off the power ( instead of a reboot ) and wait 10 seconds or so before turning on again will cure things. SOMETIMES !
