Laptop Login Wallpaper (Windows XP Pro)

Way back in the day, I subscribed to Woody's Travel Watch. One of the earliest issues described step-by-step how to create wallpaper that loaded instead of the standard Windows screen, enabling anyone to notice immediately that they inadvertently picked up the wrong laptop from the airport security screening process. Can anyone help me with those instructions again?

You are talking about logo.sys file using by Windows 95-98-Me. Windows XP has no such capability. You can modify logon screen (that prompting for Ctrl-Alt-Delete), but it's not what you're asking, isn't it?

It is better to put a sticker with picture and your name (and address, if you like) on your laptop - it really will help to recognize the laptop immediately...

Thanks! You're right, that's definitely NOT what I wanted to hear (read). Our OTHER solution was to purchase colored vinyl tape, and laptop owners make a design with stripes or such on the top and bottom of the laptop.

(Edited by Argus on 24-Sep-04 01:32. I forgot to mention Tweak UI.)
With "Powertoys for Windows XP"; Tweak UI, in my case ver 2.10, under Logon there is an option "Settings". You can "copy" your wallpaper settings etc. to the logon screen, thus one will notice if it is wrong laptop.

But I'm not sure if that is what you asked for. Here is a link to Woody's archive; Windows XP, mentioning the article in Woody's Traveler's Watch:

If you're trying to prevent mix-ups, rather than prevent crime, something on the outside of the computer would make more sense. Lots of free bumper stickers being handed out these days.
