    Uninstalling Sun Java (IE 6+)

On daughter's computer, I found the Sun Java 2 v1.4.1 ...and she didn't install it. She wants it to be removed, but there is nothing listed in the Add/Remove Control showing anything pertaining to Sun Java.
    How does one uninstall this?
    TIA

She needs to keep it. Some the sites use Java (more than some people think) and these files will need to be reinstalled if removed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

But, I thought one has to give permission for Sun to be installed? She doesn't remember being asked to download and install this. What programs are likely to use Sun Java? Is there a listing of programs that would actually use Sun? I could then check that listing to see if she even has any of those programs on her computer.

It is NOT programs per say, it is different web pages that will use it, and there are way to many to even think in trying to list.

In addition to what Dave has said, MS uses Sun's source code for their own Java Virtual Machine. They are supporting this until December 31, 2007, but the product is no longer available from MS and there will be no further enhancements to the product. MS is encouraging users to "move away from the MSJVM in a timely fashion". See This MS article .

As for the download and installation of the Sun Java Runtime, I'm not aware of any other programs that will automatically download and install it without the user's permission. As for using it in IE, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Java (Sun)>and enable Use.

    Thanks for the reply.
I will just leave it alone.
Was just curious as I am the maintenance fixer on her computer and I don't remember seeing/being asked to download it at all.

    Lonnie

As to when it got downloaded, the files in my slightly newer Sun Java 2 release 1.4.2 are all dated 20 Feb 2004 -- so either it got downloaded before then, or whatever it was that downloaded it later used the previous version!

FYI, there must be a later release because I have 1.4.2.05 dated June 3 & 4 of 2004.

IF this is a new computer from an OEM, they can load pretty much what they please.
