    When In Rome!

Edited because I am an idiot .

    1#
There are many English words which consist entirely of Roman Numerals. Which word has the highest total value?

    2#
What is the sum of the only integers whose names have no repeated letters? (In Roman Numerals, of course.)

    Re: When In Rome!

1/ Does the word also have to be a valid number in Roman numerals or are you looking for the sum of the individual numerals?
If it is the first then the highest I have come up with so far is <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">MIX = 1009</span hide>

    Maybe!
    First attempt is incorrect.

    If I'm allowed a Shakespearian style apostrophe then how about <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">MIX'D for a value of 1491 (1000 + (500-9))</span hide>

    Re: When In Rome!

    My interpretation of the question- i.e. 'total' - is that <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">MIX = M + I + X = 1,011</span hide>.
    On that basis, I offer <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">MILD = 1,551</span hide>

    Re: When In Rome!

You interpret correctly, but your answer is still a bit on the short side.

    With that interpretation, how about <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">Mimic</span hide> which scores <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">2102</span hide>

    Re: When In Rome!

    Ah! In that case perhaps <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold">MIMIC = 2,102</span hide> is what you want?

(My only excuse for failing in my earlier attempt was that I got up extra early to try and beat Hans to it, now he's back in the frame...)

Oi! You're as bad as Hans!
    I need to find a way of temporarily locking a thread while I think about my answer <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

If I'd beaten Hans I might feel smug, but it's easy to get up before Leif rises in the morning.

    2/ I have 2 possible answers
    <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold"> Using an interpretation of the Chalcidic signs, |)) is 5000
    |))CDLXXI which can also be represented as MMMMMCDLXXI
If you allow THOUSAND as a valid answer which is not valid if you refer to that number as ONE-THOUSAND
    |))MCDLXXI with the alternative representation MMMMMMCDLXXI</span hide>
