Trouble w/ NA in Custom Formula (Project 2000)

    I am using MS Project 2000 and I am trying to define a custom Text field that uses a formula to provide the Status of the task. Specifically, I want Text 1 to be either Completed (where % Complete =100) , In Progress (where Actual Start has a date, but Actual Finish doesn

    MS Project stores null values in it tables but shows them as 'NA'. To to make your formula work change = 'NA' to = Null as follows:

    IIf([% Complete]=100,'Completed',(IIf([Actual Start]= Null,'Not Started','In Progress')))

    Gary, thanks for your reply, but I tested this and still no luck. I don't get #ERROR, but for some reason, its giving me no "Not Started" and for those records that should say "Not Started", I'm getting "In Progress."

    That's interesting since the actual start fields remain "blank" until a percent complete has been added or perhaps you have statused the tasks and have MS Project automatically update information.

    In your gantt view, insert the acutal start field and is there any data there for those tasks that have not started? I tried out the formula here before posting and it worked fine (at least with my dummy data).

    I am sure there is NA in the Actual Start for the records I am expected to get "Not Started". To be sure, I created a new file and entered 3 records. One matching each criteria, and still I get "In Progress" where I expect to see "Not Started". I tried sending the file but I see it wouldn't accept an mpp file as an upload. I guess its too big.

    Try zipping the file before you send it. The loung can only accept files under 100kb. If neither works, send it to my email address at garypswanson@yahoo.com and I will take a look at it. I will post the zipped file when I respond for others to benefit.

    Interesting, when I downloaded the zip file there was nothing to open. Can you try re-zipping and re-posting the file please.

    The NA can be a real . The data tables do store the value as a null but like you, I couldn't get the test to NA to work.

    Here is a work around.

    IIf([% Complete]=100,'Completed',(IIf([Actual Start]<Now(),'In Progress','Not Started')))
