    Open readonly (2000)

    Is there a way to have a workbook open readonly for all users except for a few that I know the user id of?

    Set a write password on the workbook. You can either provide this password to authorized users, or create another workbook with a command button or something like that to open the workbook:

    Private Sub cmdOpen_Click()
    Select Case Application.Username
    Case "John", "Mary", "Ellen Sue"
    Workbooks.Open FileName:="MyWorkbook.xls", WriteResPassword:="TopSecret"
    Case Else
    Workbooks.Open Filename:="MyWorkbook.xls", ReadOnly:=True
    End Select
    End Sub

    Set a password on the VBA project of the calling workbook to prevent users from viewing this code.
