    OFFICE 2000-SP3 (OFFICE 2000)

Would appreciate some up to date opinions on the SP-3 update for OFFICE 2000...The last mention I've found about it was in Woody's 3/04 newsletter and a posting in this forum of early 4/04....At that time, all points said---"Hold off / Don't do"......If there have been later postings that I missed, I'm sorry to bring up old business, but I'd like to know if it's reasonable to proceed with the SP-3 update. FYI--I have Dell Dimension / Win XP Home SP -1 / Spybot S&D / AVG / AOL Dial up....I've kept up to date with critical updates etc (other than I haven't done SP-2 yet and it looks like won't for quite awhile) and try to be "smart" in selecting others, etc...so far so good...Again, any opinions will be appreciated........Thanx......c

    Re: OFFICE 2000-SP3 (OFFICE 2000)

Phil....Thanx for your reply......Ooooh, well now let's see......I purchased Dell Dimension 2300 12/02...It came with Win XP Home OS and MS OFFICE 2000 SR-1 PREMIUM and WordPerfect Office 2002 pre-installed......
Sounds like I've confused OFFICE XP with OFFICE 2000 which I have to admit doesn't surprise me ----I had a lot to learn when I first got the computer and I'm still a novice with all this.....
The SP2 I referred to is the new SP2 just issued for the OS (not a previous OFFICE SP2)....
Since the OFFICE 2000 SP3 cannot be un-installed (if there's a problem), I'm hesitant to try installing it especially now that it's so old .......Maybe at this point, it's best not to try it........Do you know if there's any talk about and SP4 for OFFICE 2000?........
Again, thanx so much for your help.......c

    Re: OFFICE 2000-SP3 (OFFICE 2000)

Office 2000 SP-2 introduced the new security model in Outlook that blocked certain types of attachments. This was the main reason many people recommending not updating to Office 2000 SP-2. The update also included automation security in Outlook which among other things causes warning messages to pop up when an add-in tries to access the address book. For more details see Outlook e-mail security update

With the release of Office 2000 SP-3 the security for Outlook was updated again and this allowed users to use add-ins that would let them select what attachments, if any, that would be blocked.

There are many other bugs and security issues that were patched with SP-3, for details see description of the Office 2000 Service Pack 3

    Re: OFFICE 2000-SP3 (OFFICE 2000)

Changed Win XP to Office XP. Thanks, Stuart.
I updated my Office 2000 with SP-3 on 11/23/02, with no problems that I can see. I never installed SP-2 (which is not necessary for SP-3).

Are you sure that you're talking about SP-3 for Office 2000? Woody's 3/4 newsletter talks about SP-3 for Office XP.
