links don't update (Excel 2002 SP3)

I have a user (colleague) who has the following problem on Office XP SP3 on Win XP.

"I have a big financial model folder that contains over 20 Excel files. All files are linked with each other, averaging one file linking to 5 other excel files. In order to run different scenarios, I need to create copies of the file. However, when I save the whole folder into a different location, half of the links in different files are pointing to the old path, for example, if I save a copy from C drive to D drive, the links in the files under D drive are still pointing to the file under C drive, although the file name is correct."

If I recall correctly, the best way to do this is by either saving all files (including the ones linked to) from within Excel whilst all of them are open, or by not doing a save-as but by copying the files from explorer.
