Configuration for .wmv files (Netscape 6.2)

HELP!! Can someone tell me how to configure Netscape 6.2 to play .wmv files. It will play just about anything else, except these. I have the latest version of Windows media player and Irfanview. Any insight is greatfully appreciated. Thanks. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

    Hi Ron:
I don't have NS 6.2, but it was my understanding that NS uses plug-ins to play any sound file (or view other file formats). See e.g. http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/plugins.jsp

Thanks Phil. My question is more along - how do get the plugins - plugged in?? My instinct tells me I should be able to tell Netscape what software to use to run .wmv files. It seems to know what "plugins" to use for all the other types, e.g. pdf, mpg, avi, doc, ppt, etc. Any thoughts anyone?? <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

    Thanks,

    Hi Ron:
On this page, Netscape lists audio & video plug-ins. If "smart browsing" doesn't pick one, I know Windows Media Player will do it.

Re: Configuration for .wmv files (Netscape 6.2)

I have the Windows Media Player, what I do not know is how to tell Netscape to use it for .wmv files. Internet Explorer seems to know what to do with them, but I do not use IE because of all the security problems. So, the question is - how do I configure Netscape to use the Windows Media Player for .wmv files?

Sorry to butt in here, but the link Phil gave you is for plugins, not the Win Media Player. Did you try downloading the plugin for Windows Media Player?

No problem Big Al. I appreciate any insight that anyone can give me. The first URL that Phil gave me does not have the Windows Media Player. When I go to the second URL, and click on the Windows Media Player button for download, I get a "Connection Refused" message - go figure? Now what??

    Hi Ron:
Clicking on the WMP button takes me to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...oad/default.asp. Perhaps you can download from there. Also, NS has a Smart Update feature. Can you use that?

Re: Configuration for .wmv files (Netscape 6.2)

Thanks Phil. I already have this version of the Windows Media Player - the one W2K. When I did some investigation on the URL you sent me, I get this bit of prose.

<font color=blue>If you configure Netscape Navigator to be the default Internet browser, the stand-alone version of Windows Media Player 9 Series uses the proxy settings specified in Netscape. However, if you view content that is embedded in a Web page, the proxy settings specified in the Internet Options Control Panel item are used instead.</font color=blue>

So now I guess I have to figure out what this means.

    Cheers,
