    Attachment File Types

Sorry, you can only upload the following filetypes: .PPT .TXT .DOC .RTF .XLS .PDF .GIF .JPG .JPEG
.PNG .BMP .EMF .XAR .WAV .MP3 .AU .SND .RA .RM .MID .MOV .MPG .AVI .ZIP .TAR .GZ

Admin, could we add '*.csv' files to this list? They are no more risky than text files, and are a sneaky way to get an Excel data file posted that is usually much smaller than an '*.xls' file.

There isn't really anything sacred about the csv extension. It will work just as well if you rename it to txt. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

That's true, but Excel will open a CSV file without firing up the conversion wizard.

Where will this stop? Should we accept .bas files because they import easily into the VBE? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> (I post them as modulename_bas.txt with a note to change the extension back to just .bas)

Adding *.BAS to the list sounds good to me! <img src=/S/anigrin.gif border=0 alt=anigrin width=19 height=19> I didn't think this would be a big deal; as it is there's several formats on the existing list that are highly interchangeable, so another one shouldn't hurt.

    What about .mdb for Access?

    Re: Attachment File Types

I don't think we want .mdb as an attachment type:
<UL><LI>File size: a blank new database in Access 2000 format is 92 KB in size. You can't add even one small table to it without exceeding the 100 KB attachment limit.
<LI>If somebody would open the database directly from the link instead of downloading it, it probably wouldn't function properly, since the .ldb file couldn't be created.
<LI>Access doesn't warn the user that a database contains an AutoExec macro or startup form. This could be a problem if someone opens the database directly by accident.[/list]So it's better to keep the requirement that .mdb's must be zipped.

That's a fair one. It never occurred to me that you couldn't get an mdb file below 100Kb with anything in it! <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30>

I think you would find the <img src=/S/eileen.gif border=0 alt=eileen width=17 height=15> blocked ALL executables, to include EXE, script, screen saver, bas and etc.
These had a tendency to run as soon as it was loaded and could do weird things to the site and/or ones computer.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Attachment File Types

That's reasonable. I just figured that since we had both .doc and .rtf, .csv wouldn't hurt as an additiona to .txt, and it has an advantage in Excel. Anyhow, I will live with whatever Lounge Admin decides.

    Re: Attachment File Types

Well, .doc and .rtf aren't exactly the same file types, but I do see your point.
