    Look! Even this doesn't work! That 'thing' in the brackets was a tick when I posted it!! Now look at it!

    Hold <alt> and enter 0252 from the numeric keypad

    The you must format it to Wiingdings

    You can use the character map (start - programs - accessories - system tools) to see the characters and also insert directly from here.

    Re: Inserting a tick (Excel 2000)

    Sorry! I wasn't very clear, was I? I want to do this in VBA inside Excel. I knew about using ALT+252 direct into a cell, but what's the equivalent in a macro?

    Sorry for the confusion. Thanks anyway.

    Excel is less flexible when it comes to non-standard characters than Word.

    Type the character <big><big>

    With Range("B37")
    .Value = Chr(252)
    .Font.Name = "Wingdings"

    Sorry, Hans. I wasn't very clear. I want to do this in a macro using VBA. Any way of doing this, given that InsertSymbol seems to be for Word only? Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

    Here's a quick little macro that would put the tick in the current cell.

    Sub tick()
    ActiveCell.Formula = "

    Oh, so simple! Sometimes we do try to complicate matters, don't we? Thanks for the insight! It works, of course.
