Retrieve doc mouse shows info (2003 XP)

Hi. I've been a "lurker" for quite awhile and am finally jumping in.

Using Word 2003 XP. When I open folder to retrieve document and put my cursor to highlight document I will see info, i.e., date created, time, size of file, etc. Unfortunately, info does not show the date anymore. It worked fine earlier in the week; cannot figure out how I changed it.

    Any help appreciated.

Does the same occur in Windows Explorer, or is it just in the Open and Save As dialogs of Office applications?

By the way, what is the "XP" you mention? Your Windows version?

XP is Windows version. It also occurs in Windows Explorer.

In that case, it is not a Word, or even an Office question, but a Windows XP question, so this thread has been moved from the Word forum to the Windows XP forum.

Are all of these files local, or is there a network involved. Files that are on a mapped drive show much less information than local ones.

    This is on a network.

I'd guess your problem is comparing the behaviour of a network mapped drive with a local disk then. Do you think this could have happened?

Not sure what you mean; sorry. Everything is saved/taken from network drive.

This problem is occurring on my computer and one other; the remaining five computers when in Word 2003 (I'm only concerned about Word; doesn't matter other programs, Explorer, etc.), shows additional info - size of file, when last changed, etc.

Very strange. My computers here at home are very consistent. If the data is on a local drive then I see lots of info, for a network drive the balloon tip just shows document type and size.

Maybe one of other loungers will have a suggestion for you.

Have you applied XP SP-2 or Office 2003 SP-1? Is there some change on the machine recently?

The situation for me is as described by Stuart: files on a local drive show extensive information, files on a network drive display only file type and size, plus file name if it is too long to be displayed completely in the Open dialog itself.

Hi. I believe we just installed SP-2; is there some way for me to double check?; then I could check the machines that are still working.

Anyway, if that is the case, do you have a work-around?

To check the Windows version, select Help | About Windows in Windows Explorer. If Windows XP SP2 has been installed, you'll see "Service Pack 2" in the window.'

To check the Office version, select Help | About Microsoft Word in Word. The SP level will be displayed.

I'm agreeing with Hans and Stuart. Local files show extensive information while networked files show little. I'm running XP SP-2 & Office XP SP-3.

Yes - I checked on four machines; three had Service Pack 2 and no longer had additional info while machine with Service Pack 1 had more detailed info. Any workaround to this?
