    .mus file extension

As a follow up to my <post#=409031>post 409031</post#> , I have discovered numerous files that have an extension ".mus".
Googling on that, I see that it must be some kind of music file used by composers & other music professionals. Nowhere could I find a program that would PLAY these files. I did find a few that claimed to play them but could not get any to work at all.

Does anyone know of or could point me in the right direction to find a PLAYER for these xxxxx.mus files?

Never heard of them, but have you tried the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>ware MELODY PLAYER?

    Re: .mus file extension

Is this what you're looking for?

Finale is probably the leading application that uses .MUS, although I remember using an older application called MusicTime that also used .MUS. Unfortunately, the company (Passport) went out of business around 1998. It's a shame, because their high-end product (Encore) was one of my favorites!

As far as playing the MUS files, you can probably use the "lite" version of Finale called Finale NotePad. It's a free download: http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad.

    Hope this helps!

I have just checked my copy of Sibelius and it has the ability to open MUS files, but I suspect that you wouldn't want to buy a copy of Sibelius to do this (<A target="_blank" HREF="http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/buy/main.pl?com=main">

    Re: .mus file extension

    Alan,
Thanks for the suggestion but I tried it and it couldn't open them, just showed error opening file.
    So far I've tried:
    Winamp
    Musicmatch Jukebox
    Shoutcast
    Finale 5.0 Demo
    Finale Noteplayer
    Muspl150
    Musedit
    Meloplay ( melody player )

I really thought Finale was it but sadly, no good.

    Re: .mus file extension

    Mark,
That appears to be the type of file I'm trying to play.
As for Finale, see post to Alan. I thought that was it....NG.
    Same for Finale NotePad.

It looks like Music Time is the one. I was able to Download a copy after Googling for it, BUT it was the ITALIAN version. I WAS able to get it to play a few MUS files after madly clicking on every icon in the GUI. So now if I can only find an English version............SOMEWHERE?

Hmmm <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> you're having a rough time of it. Just a thought (or three) - how reliable is the source of these files? Could they be corrupted in any way? Do the headers give any information/ clues?

    Alan

PS - FYI, I have attached the file format/ spec for .MUS files. Might be of help.

    Hi Bob

I don't know if it's the same program, but you can download a demo of MusicTime Deluxe or purchase it fo a mere $120 US.

    Have a Great day!!!

Yes, Ken. That's one in the same. It looks like GVOX bought the products after Passport went under a few years ago.

Encore was my FAVORITE scoring appliation before it went away. Once I switched to Finale, I could not make myself go back!
