    Working with Time (2003)

    Hi there
I'm attaching the document, please see column F. We're trying to work out the total duration, but it adds up to just over 2 hours. Please could you advise which function to use?
    Thank you

What do you want added? Can you specify what you want calculated? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

Excel usually formats times as part of the 24 hour day. To work with accumulated time, set the number format to [hh]:mm. The square brackets around hh tell Excel to display times above 24 hours.

    Hi Rudi
I just want to total the number of hours spent for these sessions. We were thinking of just doing a normal sum function for column F, but it's not working.

Did you format the cells? When we sum it we get the number 2... Please let me know how you got to this total.... (it can't be that easy!)

Yes i did format the cell. As Hans explained in the previous thread, you need to add [ ] around the hours to show time as accumulated! I selected the sum function cell, chose Format Cells and in the Type box, which shows the hh:mm format, I added the [ ] to make it [hh]:mm.
    Hope this clears it up!
    Regards,
    Rudi
